Community Policing / Bike Patrol

The Community Policing Unit provides law enforcement based community outreach services including crime prevention, Project Lifesaver, and child and senior safety information. The Community Policing Unit patrols and protects local and county bikeways and Atlantic County Property and actively participates in traffic enforcement. The use of bicycles enhances the mobility of officers and adds a silent tactical approach to patrol. In addition to law enforcement advantages, the bicycle officers will seek to develop community relations and encourage interaction with the public. With the element of surprise, this unit will have an impact on quality of life issues as well as proactive enforcement endeavors. It has greatly increased the Sheriff’s Office efforts to promote positive public relations. The Bicycle Patrol Officers carry bike safety literature which they distribute to youngsters during the course of their patrol tour. As the warmer weather and summer season approaches, the presence of the Bicycle Patrol Unit  will impact significantly in the effort to provide quality law enforcement and protection services. Part of the Bicycle Officers routine is performing extra property checks at all Atlantic County Parks, including bicycle trails.
